What are the benefits of using Smart cards?

A smart card, chip card, or integrated circuit card (ICC) is any pocket-sized card that has embedded integrated circuits.Smart cards are made of plastic, generally polyvinyl chloride, but sometimes polyethylene terephthalate based polyesters, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene or polycarbonate. Since April 2009, a Japanese company has manufactured reusable financial smart cards made from paper.

Smart cards can be either contact or contactless smart card. Smart cards can provide personal identification, authentication, data storage, and application processing.JCOP is the brief of the Java card operating platform which is a comprehensive operating system for smart cards working off the JAVA platform. JCOP is the latest version with high security smart solutions developed by NXP.
NXP JCOP card is a good ideal for multi applications such as IT login, access control, identification card, banking and finance, mobile communication, public transportation.
BTW, the J2A and J3A NXP JCOP card new family members had been instead of JCOP10, JCOP21, JCOP31 and JCOP41.

A second card type is the contactless smart card, in which the card communicates with and is powered by the reader through RF induction technology. These cards require only proximity to an antenna to communicate. Like smart cards with contacts, contactless cards do not have an internal power source. Instead, they use an inductor to capture some of the incident radio-frequency interrogation signal, rectify it, and use it to power the card's electronics.

Smart cards serve as credit or ATM cards, fuel cards, mobile phone SIMs, authorization cards for pay television, household utility pre-payment cards, high-security identification and access-control cards, and public transport and public phone payment cards.
